The Cardinals stroll into San Francisco with a record of 76–80, which is like showing up to a family reunion after everyone already ate dessert, technically present, but nobody’s excited. His ERA at 3.75 suggests he’s still capable of mowing down hitters, but run support from his teammates has been about as dependable as a gas station hot dog at 3 a.m. If the Giants decide to actually score while he’s pitching, they might win something for a change.
Offensively, Rafael Devers is carrying the load with 32 bombs and 31 doubles, proving he can do more with a bat than most people do with a gym membership. Patrick Bailey has been serviceable recently, though hitting 7-for-31 isn’t exactly Hall of Fame material, unless the Hall of Fame starts recognizing “almost getting on base.”
