Toronto Blue Jays: Gausman Looks to Take Control

The Blue Jays storm into Game 5 with momentum after two convincing wins in Seattle, including an 8-2 rout on Thursday that evened the ALCS. Their offense finally woke up, racking up 21 runs across the last two games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Andres Gimenez have been seeing beach balls at the plate, both going deep in back-to-back outings.

Kevin Gausman draws the Game 5 start, and Toronto bettors will like what they’ve seen lately. The right-hander is 1-1 with a sharp 2.38 ERA this postseason and has shown his usual poise under pressure. Even in his Game 1 loss, Gausman gave Toronto a chance, allowing only two runs in nearly six innings. The Jays’ bullpen, however, will need to tighten things up late if they want to regain control of this series.

Toronto’s bats have been scorching hot, and Gausman’s command could be the difference in a pivotal matchup. Expect John Schneider’s squad to stay aggressive early against Seattle’s young arm.

Seattle Mariners: Miller Back on the Hill

Seattle flips back to Bryce Miller, the rookie who stunned Toronto in Game 1. Despite an uneven regular season (4-6, 5.68 ERA), Miller has been clutch in October, posting a 2.61 ERA in two playoff starts. He tossed six strong innings in his previous outing against the Jays, allowing only one run, a George Springer leadoff blast.

Manager Dan Wilson made the surprising decision to stick with Miller instead of returning ace Bryan Woo, who will be used out of the bullpen due to limited stamina. The move signals trust in Miller’s poise and playoff rhythm, especially at home where the Mariners crowd will be rocking.

The key for Seattle will be controlling damage early. Toronto’s lineup has been punishing mistakes, and Miller can’t afford to fall behind in counts. If he can replicate his Game 1 command, the Mariners have a real shot to regain the series edge.

Prediction

With both teams’ offenses heating up and two solid right-handers on the mound, this one has all the makings of a tense, low-scoring battle early before the bullpens decide it.

Score Prediction: Blue Jays 4, Mariners 3
