Colorado vs Chicago NHL Preview & Pick

Colorado Avalanche Betting Preview

Colorado rolls into Chicago playing like a team that expects to dictate the tempo from the opening faceoff. They have eight straight wins and the top point total in the league, and their habit of striking early is no fluke. Colorado already has five goals in the opening minute this season, showing how quickly they can flip a game on its head.

Even though their last outing came with long stretches of uneven play, the Avalanche still got the job done behind a rock-solid shutout from Mackenzie Blackwood. Nashville threw 35 shots at him, and he turned them all back. Colorado needed a performance like that because the group in front of him was far from sharp.

The Avalanche are on their longest heater since early 2024, and they are finding ways to win even without a complete effort. Cale Makar had his first road game this season without a point, yet the team still managed to control the key moments. Nathan MacKinnon continues to drive the attack, and the supporting cast is supplying steady depth. Colorado looks like a confident group that knows how to close games once they get a lead.

Chicago Blackhawks Betting Preview

Chicago enters this matchup going in the opposite direction. They have dropped two straight, and the most recent loss was an outright disaster, giving up nine goals in Buffalo. That followed a blown third period against Seattle, where they surrendered three straight to lose 3-2. The team has been stressing accountability, but the defensive lapses keep piling up.

The coaching staff believes the group is still learning how to survive the grind of an NHL schedule, and it shows. When they are not sharp physically, they have had trouble staying connected mentally, which has led to long stretches of mistakes. The bright spots are individual. Connor Bedard continues to grow, hitting 100 career assists while still only 20 years old. Tyler Bertuzzi has been one of their more consistent veterans, now riding a six-game point streak.

Still, Chicago has not shown the structure or discipline needed to slow down a team with Colorado’s speed and depth. Their defensive coverage has been shaky, and the goaltending has been inconsistent at best.

NHL Betting Edge & Prediction

Colorado is playing with momentum and experience, while Chicago is struggling with fundamentals and consistency. The Avalanche should dictate possession, pace, and scoring chances. With the moneyline sitting at -230, Bovada oddsmakers are clearly expecting Colorado to control this matchup.

Score Prediction: Avalanche 5, Blackhawks 2
