LA Rams vs Kansas City Preview & Prediction
Spread: Kansas City -1.5
Moneyline: Kansas City (-200)
Total: 35.5
Kansas City: Backup Business
Kansas City enters as a 1.5-point favorite, but don’t expect Patrick Mahomes to rescue anybody’s preseason betting slip. He’s expected to watch this one while the backups fight for jobs and coaches pretend the scoreboard is secondary.
Justin Fields gets the spotlight as he tries to lock down the QB2 role behind Mahomes. Rookie Garrett Nussmeier should also see work, making Kansas City’s quarterback rotation one of the biggest reasons to trust its offensive depth.
New running back Kenneth Walker III adds another weapon, although his workload should be limited. The Chiefs will likely emphasize the ground game and test an offensive line that finally appears to have legitimate depth.
Los Angeles: Welcome to August
The Rams counter with Stetson Bennett and rookie first-round pick Ty Simpson. Both should get plenty of opportunities against a young Kansas City defense looking to make life miserable.
Peter Woods and R Mason Thomas headline the defensive line prospects to watch, while second-year defensive back Nohl Williams gets an early test against Los Angeles’ deep collection of offensive weapons.
Kansas City’s secondary could be without Mansoor Delane, but there should still be enough competition for roster spots to keep the intensity somewhere above “mandatory company meeting.”
LVSB Betting Prediction
This is preseason football, where you’re basically handicapping backups, motivation and which coach cares slightly more about winning a game nobody remembers by September.
Kansas City appears deeper in the trenches, has Fields running the offense and should be capable of controlling possession once the starters disappear.
At only -1.5, we’ll ride with the Chiefs.
The total sits at a microscopic 35.5. With Fields, Bennett, Simpson and Nussmeier getting opportunities against second and third-team defenses, we’re leaning toward enough scoring to sneak Over.
Mahomes gets the night off. Bettors, unfortunately, do not.
Final Score: Chiefs 23, Rams 17
