St. Louis vs Philadelphia MLB Preview & Pick
Moneyline: Philadelphia -152
Runline: Philadelphia -1.5 (+140)
Total: 9.0
Phillies Are Apparently Allergic to Losing
Philadelphia enters Saturday riding a season-best seven-game winning streak after stealing Friday’s opener 7-6 in extra innings. The Phillies are -152 moneyline favorites, -1.5 (+140) on the run line, with the total set at 9.0.
Alec Bohm is currently treating baseballs like they owe him money. He went 3-for-5 Friday with a triple, an RBI single and the two runs that decided the game. Bohm now has 15 RBIs in 18 August games and 74 this season, tied with Kyle Schwarber for the team lead.
Luis Arraez added three hits Friday, while J.T. Realmuto chipped in two RBI doubles. Philadelphia is now a season-high 13 games above .500.
Painter Brings the Adventure
Andrew Painter gets the ball for Philadelphia carrying a 2-8 record and a 6.43 ERA. So yes, backing -152 requires accepting a little chaos.
Painter allowed five runs and two homers over five innings against Minnesota last time out. However, he handled St. Louis much better on August 10, taking a no-hitter into the sixth before finishing with two runs allowed across 5 1/3 innings.
That version of Painter would be greatly appreciated by anyone holding a Phillies ticket.
Cardinals Have Some Pop
Jordan Walker homered Friday for his third consecutive game, which should have Painter’s full attention.
St. Louis is expected to counter with Quinn Mathews. The 25-year-old lefty owns a 5-4 record and 3.27 ERA across 21 Triple-A starts, plus a 3.00 ERA over nine major-league innings this season.
Masyn Winn remains another concern for St. Louis because of a left thumb injury, although he did enter Friday’s game defensively.
LVSB Prediction
Philadelphia has the hotter lineup, home field and enough late-inning firepower to survive another potentially shaky Painter outing.
At -152, the Phillies moneyline looks safer than asking them to win by multiple runs with a 6.43 ERA starter on the mound. We enjoy gambling. We don’t need unnecessary cardio.
