Braves: Favorites With Baggage
Atlanta enters Thursday as a slim -111 moneyline favorite, with the run line at -1.5 (+150). Apparently, losing eight of 12 games is now considered premium favorite material. Vegas works in mysterious ways.
The Braves were just swept by Minnesota, getting outscored 14-7. Ozzie Albies doubled and drove in a run Wednesday, while Ronald Acuna Jr. and Lane Thomas each added a hit and RBI.
Grant Holmes (7-5, 3.82 ERA) gets another shot at Chicago. He opened August with consecutive six-inning shutout performances before Arizona introduced him to gravity. Holmes surrendered six runs in just 3 2/3 innings last Saturday.
White Sox: The Slowest Sweep Ever
Chicago already owns two wins over Atlanta in this series. They just happened 10 weeks ago. Nothing screams momentum like waiting most of the summer for Game 3.
The White Sox return home after beating the Cubs 3-0 Wednesday. Rookie Braden Montgomery drove in two runs, while Miguel Vargas remains scorching hot. Vargas hit .417 (10-for-24) with three homers and four RBIs during Chicago’s recent 4-2 road trip.
He also homered off Holmes when these teams met in June.
Convenient.
Pitching Edge to Chicago?
Anthony Kay (9-5, 4.01 ERA) starts for the White Sox and has quietly been excellent in August. He’s 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA across three starts and 17 2/3 innings this month.
Chicago’s bullpen should also be relatively fresh after Jose Urquidy supplied six scoreless innings of relief Wednesday.
LVSB Betting Prediction
Atlanta is favored, but we’re not excited about paying -111 for a team stumbling through an eight-loss-in-12-games stretch.
Chicago has the hotter starter, a rested bullpen and Vargas swinging like somebody accidentally turned the difficulty setting to Rookie.
We’ll grab the home slight underdog and chase the world’s most delayed sweep.
With the total at 8.5, we’re expecting another competitive game without the scoreboard requiring emergency maintenance.
