Buffalo Sabres Betting Breakdown

The Buffalo Sabres head into Montreal knowing turnovers and poor puck management completely wrecked them in Game 2. Buffalo tried to establish a physical tone with 44 hits, but the Canadiens handled the pressure and capitalized on mistakes all night long.

Tage Thompson struggled badly in the loss, finishing at minus-4 while committing costly giveaways. One of his turnovers directly led to a key third-period goal that put the game out of reach. Thompson admitted afterward that nothing seemed to go right with the puck on his stick, and Buffalo will need a major bounce-back effort from their star forward in Game 3.

The Sabres also got exposed defensively despite the physical approach. Mattias Samuelsson delivered 10 hits and tried to spark the team physically, but Buffalo’s aggressive style left gaps in coverage and created transition opportunities for Montreal.

Goaltender Alex Lyon struggled behind shaky defensive play, and Buffalo simply cannot afford the same sloppy puck decisions on the road. Coach Lindy Ruff pointed directly to self-inflicted mistakes as the difference in Game 2. If the Sabres want to reclaim control of the series, cleaner exits and smarter offensive-zone possession will be critical.

There could be some added grit returning soon with Sam Carrick nearing a comeback from injury, but Buffalo’s biggest issue remains execution under pressure.

Montreal Canadiens Betting Breakdown

The Canadiens completely flipped the series momentum after their dominant 5-1 win. Montreal looked faster, sharper, and far more composed from the opening puck drop.

Alex Newhook wasted no time setting the tone, scoring twice including an early strike that immediately energized the Bell Centre crowd watching from home. Mike Matheson also continued his strong postseason with a goal and solid defensive work, helping Montreal control both ends of the ice.

The Canadiens’ defensive commitment stood out just as much as the scoring. Montreal blocked 18 shots and constantly disrupted Buffalo’s offensive rhythm. Noah Dobson and Matheson combined for eight blocked shots, showing exactly why this blue line has become a major playoff weapon.

In goal, Jakub Dobes continues to be one of the breakout stars of the postseason. After posting a .923 save percentage against Tampa Bay, he followed it up by stopping 28 of 29 shots in Game 2 against Buffalo. His confidence and swagger are clearly spreading throughout the lineup.

Montreal also looks mentally locked in right now. Coach Martin St. Louis has this group playing with energy, structure, and belief, and the Canadiens suddenly look like the team dictating the series tempo.

NHL Playoffs Betting Prediction

Buffalo’s physical style alone is not enough to slow down Montreal. Right now, the Canadiens are winning the speed battle, the goaltending matchup, and the mental game. With the series shifting to Montreal and the crowd fully behind them, this feels like another strong spot for the Habs.

The Canadiens moneyline still carries value at -125, while the plus-money puck line is attractive for bettors looking for a bigger payout. Buffalo’s recent defensive mistakes make another multi-goal Montreal victory very possible.

The total of 6.0 feels fair, but Montreal’s defensive structure and Dobes’ current form slightly favor a lower-scoring pace.
