Avalanche vs. Stars Game 5 Betting Preview, Prediction & Breakdown
Moneyline: Colorado -142 | Total: 6.0
Colorado Avalanche Outlook
The Avalanche head into a pivotal Game 5 with new life after a dominant 4-0 win that evened the series at 2-2. Colorado has a massive emotional boost with the return of captain Gabriel Landeskog, who made his presence felt with a goal and an assist in Game 4 — his first points since the 2022 Stanley Cup Final.
Landeskog’s return adds serious depth and leadership to an already dangerous Avalanche lineup, and his chemistry with Brock Nelson was on full display last game. With the offense buzzing and Colorado controlling the pace (outshooting Dallas 48-23 in Game 4), the Avalanche now look primed to swing the series back in their favor.
Jared Bednar’s squad will look to capitalize on their momentum and bring the same aggressive forecheck and puck pressure to Game 5. If the Avs repeat that formula, they’re in a strong position to steal a road win and get within one victory of advancing.
Dallas Stars Outlook
After back-to-back overtime wins, the Stars got a harsh reality check in Game 4, getting completely outworked in all three zones. Dallas must regroup quickly as the series shifts back to home ice, where they’ve been excellent all season (28-10-3 record).
Goaltender Jake Oettinger will need a big bounce-back performance after being chased midway through Game 4. Coach Pete DeBoer knows his team has no choice but to respond better, particularly in terms of offensive zone time — Dallas was nearly doubled in shots and total attempts in the last outing.
Tyler Seguin and the Stars acknowledge this series was never going to be an easy path, but they must clean up turnovers, spend less time defending, and establish a heavier forecheck if they want to avoid falling behind.
Expect Dallas to bring a higher-intensity effort at home, but question marks remain about whether they can match Colorado’s current pace and energy level.
Prediction
Momentum is clearly with Colorado, and Landeskog’s return has provided a major emotional lift. Dallas will make it tougher at home, but the Avalanche’s superior speed and depth should shine through again.
Pick: Avalanche ML (-142)
Prediction: Colorado 3, Dallas 1
Lean: Under 6.0 (-105) – In a tight, pressure-packed Game 5, goals could be harder to come by despite the high shot volume.
