Stars vs. Avalanche NHL Playoffs Betting Preview & Prediction

Moneyline Favorite: Colorado -190 | Total: 6.5

The Colorado Avalanche return home for Game 3 on Wednesday night as strong favorites, priced at -190 on the moneyline, with the total set at 6.5 goals. After the Dallas Stars clawed their way back to even the series at 1-1 with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win in Game 2, this Western Conference quarterfinal has quickly shifted from a potential sweep to a hard-fought war.

Dallas Stars Outlook:

The Stars head to Denver riding the momentum of their Game 2 comeback. While their leading scorer Jason Robertson remains sidelined with a knee injury, all eyes are on Mikko Rantanen, who is still adjusting after being traded from Colorado mid-season. Despite his history with the Avalanche, Rantanen has yet to register a point and carries a -3 rating in the series. That lack of production is concerning, especially with the added pressure of returning to the building where he spent most of his career. Dallas will need him to step up, especially if they want to steal one on the road and tilt the series in their favor.

Colorado Avalanche Outlook:

The Avalanche, priced as the favorites, are looking to regain control of the series. They’ve seen inconsistent scoring from their second line, with Brock Nelson, Valeri Nichushkin, and Jonathan Drouin held scoreless so far. Coach Jared Bednar has made it clear he expects more from that group and could shake up the lines if they don’t deliver. However, a spark may come in the form of Gabriel Landeskog, who’s nearing a return after a long injury absence. With Landeskog potentially suiting up and goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood posting a solid .921 save percentage in the first two games, the Avalanche have the tools to respond.

Betting Prediction:

The Avalanche should come out fired up in front of their home crowd, especially with the return of Landeskog a real possibility. Their offense needs to wake up beyond the top line, but the depth and home-ice edge should give them the edge. Dallas has battled well, but their top-line struggles and Rantanen’s adjustment issues are causes for concern.

Pick: Avalanche ML (-190)
Score Prediction:
Colorado 4, Dallas 2
Total Lean:
Under 6.5 (-115) – Expect a tighter defensive game with high intensity and playoff nerves.
