The best thing you can say about Indiana is that it looks like their backcourt of the future appears to be set. Tyrese Haliburton, acquired from the Sacramento Kings at last year’s trade deadline already looks like a foundational piece at the one. 2022 sixth overall pick Bennedict Mathurin has terrific complementary skills at shooting guard as well.
Pretty much everything young or experience veteran is on the table to be traded for futures, including 26-year-old Myles Turner who is a borderline star in his own right, but no longer fits the timeline of this three-to-four-year rebuild.
Buddy Hield is another solid veteran likely on his way out sooner rather than later.
There are some young depth pieces as well and in Rick Carlisle, they have a coach who’s one of the best teachers in the game, but this is a team looking to lose a lot of games this season.

About the only thing that really makes sense to bet on is Indiana finished below 24.5 wins on their regular season win total. This team if they are smart, and I think they are, does not want to come close to sniffing that total. The projected number one overall pick is Frenchman Victor Wembanyama who happens to be a power forward/center. Getting their hands on him to be a major part of the rebuild, while coaching up the youth to be solid contributors in three years is likely to be their main focus.
If you want one more future to consider, Mathurin is going to play a lot of minutes and that could make the talented guard a serious player in the rookie of the year race.
