No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 24 Louisville meet in Nashville in the weekend’s only Top 25 matchup, with the Rebels favored by 6.5 and the Total at 55.0. So naturally, absolutely nobody will overreact to the result.
Pete Golding now runs Ole Miss full-time after guiding the Rebels to the CFP semifinals. He inherits an offense that ranked second nationally at nearly 490 yards per game. Trinidad Chambliss returns after throwing for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns, while Kewan Lacy rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 scores.
That’s less an offense and more a small natural disaster.
Louisville Brings Real Resistance
Louisville finished 9-4 last season and brings back a defense that ranked 16th nationally, allowing 303.1 yards per game. Clev Lubin leads the front after recording 8.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss.
The offense now belongs to Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz, with Isaac Brown returning after rushing for 884 yards and seven touchdowns at 8.8 yards per carry. Keyjuan Brown added 704 yards, six scores and 7.3 yards per carry.
Jeff Brohm has built a reputation for ruining ranked teams’ Saturdays, so Ole Miss shouldn’t expect a relaxing trip.
LVSB Predictions
Ole Miss has the more proven quarterback, elite rushing production and enough defensive talent behind Will Echoles, who posted 5.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss.
Louisville can keep this competitive, but the Rebels have too much offensive firepower over four quarters.
