The Knicks answered the call in Game 5, avoiding elimination with a dominant 111-94 win at MSG. With the series now 3-2, they travel to Indiana looking to force Game 7. Jalen Brunson continued his postseason rampage, dropping 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting. Karl-Anthony Towns looked healthier than expected, racking up 24 points and 13 boards while bullying the Pacers inside.
New York’s biggest win, though, came on the defensive end. Mikal Bridges and company threw Tyrese Haliburton off rhythm early and never let him recover. But all eyes are on Haliburton, who went from a historic 32-15-12 triple-double in Game 4 to just eight points and six assists in Game 5. The Knicks’ defensive scheme rattled him, and Rick Carlisle admitted the team needs to better support their floor general.
Pascal Siakam continues to provide a steady scoring punch, averaging 23.6 points per game in the series. But if Indiana wants to avoid a do-or-die Game 7 in New York, it starts with toughness and tempo, two things they were sorely lacking on Thursday.
