The Fever Survived a Track Meet
Indiana is coming off a completely normal 110-107 win over Seattle, assuming your definition of “normal” includes zero defense and enough scoring to make the scoreboard request overtime pay.
The Fever pulled it off without All-Star center Aliyah Boston, who missed the game with a right lower leg injury. Her status matters again Saturday because Indiana could use every available rebound against New York’s powerful frontcourt.
Caitlin Clark apparently selected rookie mode on Friday, setting a franchise record with 45 points and adding 10 assists in only 29 minutes. She shot 11-for-18 from the field, 6-for-10 from three and 17-for-19 at the free-throw line.
Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in one game. Casual evening at the office.
Kelsey Mitchell added 30 points on 13-for-25 shooting. Clark and Mitchell combined for a franchise-record 75 points, proving Indiana’s offensive strategy is currently “give the guards the ball and move.”
New York Arrives Rested and Slightly Grumpy
The Liberty have not played in nearly a week after Thursday’s game in Dallas was postponed because of travel issues. Their previous appearance was a 93-91 loss in Toronto.
New York has dropped three straight, five of six and seven of nine. That is less of a slump and more of a season-long argument with the basketball gods.
Satou Sabally remains in concussion protocol, while Leonie Fiebich is sidelined with a foot injury. However, New York still has Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu.
Stewart averages 20.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists. Jones contributes 15 points and 9.3 rebounds, while Ionescu adds 13.3 points and 4.3 assists.
LVSB Betting Prediction
Indiana’s offense is blazing, but playing again less than 24 hours after a 217-point carnival is not ideal. New York is rested, desperate and better equipped to control the paint, especially if Boston remains unavailable.
The Liberty should exploit Indiana’s tired legs late and finally stop their losing streak.
