Dallas Wings: One Win From the Dance
Dallas enters Tuesday as an 8.5-point favorite, and the Wings are one victory away from locking up the WNBA’s final playoff spot. Apparently winning 22 games after posting 10 last season qualifies as a fairly decent glow-up.
Dallas has won two straight, including Sunday’s 92-70 demolition of Seattle. Paige Bueckers basically ended that game before some fans found their seats, scoring 18 first-quarter points and finishing with 32. She had 23 points through the first 16 minutes as Dallas built a ridiculous 56-21 lead. Jessica Shepard added 11 points and 11 rebounds because apparently Seattle hadn’t suffered enough.
Portland’s Playoff Calculator Is Smoking
Portland comes in at 15-22 after losing 105-100 to Washington. Carla Leite was excellent with 27 points and 11 assists, while Emily Engstler scored 23 and buried 5 of 7 from three. Megan DiLeo added 21 points and Bridget Carleton finished with 18.
Unfortunately, the Fire then surrendered 40 points in the fourth quarter. Forty. In ten minutes. That is less “closing out a basketball game” and more “holding the door open while carrying everyone’s groceries.”
Portland’s playoff formula is wonderfully simple: win all seven remaining games and hope Dallas loses all six. So basically, just casually produce a basketball miracle.

These teams split two earlier meetings. Portland won 84-83 on June 13 before Dallas answered with a 101-97 victory on July 22.
Dallas has considerably more momentum, home court and an offense being driven by Bueckers at exactly the right time. Portland can score enough to keep the total moving, but its late-game defense remains terrifying for all the wrong reasons.
