Game Preview

Adam Duvall hit another impressive homer against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he quickly remembered it wasn’t as spectacular as his 2021 blast in Phoenix.

Duvall and the Atlanta Braves aim to overpower the Diamondbacks for the third consecutive time on Wednesday night in their four-game series, which concludes Thursday.

The Braves are 5-0 against the Diamondbacks this season, following a 6-2 victory on Tuesday that featured Duvall’s three-run homer in the sixth inning off Arizona ace Zac Gallen. The 441-foot blast landed deep in the left-field bleachers.

While it was a majestic shot, Duvall’s most impressive homer in Phoenix remains his 483-foot blast on September 20, 2021, which cleared the left-center seating and landed on the concourse.

"I just happen to hit the ball well here," Duvall said after Tuesday’s game. "(Gallen) didn’t make a terrible pitch. He threw me a lot of curveballs tonight, so I had seen quite a few and ended up getting the barrel on one."

Tuesday’s homer was Duvall’s fourth in 22 career games in Phoenix. It would be one higher if not for a bizarre incident two nights after his epic 2021 homer. Duvall hit a ball that caromed off the glove of Arizona’s Jake McCarthy and into the seats, but confusion over whether McCarthy caught the ball led to Duvall being ruled out for passing Austin Riley on the bases, turning a potential homer into a two-run single.

Tuesday’s homer was Duvall’s eighth of the season, and he went 2-for-3 to raise his average to .191.

Duvall’s game-changing homer came on Gallen’s 105th and final pitch of the night. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo had considered pulling Gallen before Duvall’s at-bat.
