Game Preview
As the ALCS shifts to Ohio for Game 3, the Yankees carry all the momentum with a 2-0 series lead. The Cleveland Guardians have struggled due to errors and missed chances, but they’re hopeful of a comeback at home.
"We always feel confident, especially here," said Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt. "We love playing in front of our fans, and having three games at home gives us a good shot."
In the first two games, the Guardians faltered both at the plate and defensively. They went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, leading to losses of 5-2 and 6-3. Credit goes to the Yankees’ resilient pitching staff, which limited Cleveland’s scoring despite multiple chances in Game 2.
Looking to turn things around, Cleveland will send lefty Matthew Boyd to the mound, who has been sharp in the postseason. Boyd threw well in the ALDS, combining for six-plus shutout innings across two appearances. On the other side, Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt will take the ball, coming off a solid 4 2/3 innings in his last start.
Schmidt praised the Guardians’ lineup, noting their mix of small-ball and power, led by hitters like Josh Naylor. "They do the little things right but also have the power to change a game," Schmidt said. "You can’t relax against them because anyone can get on base."
