MLB Betting Preview & Predictions: Blue Jays vs Red Sox

Moneyline: Boston -122 | Total: 8.5

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to complete a four-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Thursday afternoon, flipping the script after being swept by the Mets last weekend. Riding momentum from a tightly contested 2-1 win in 11 innings on Wednesday, the Jays now aim for their second sweep in their last three series.

Toronto Blue Jays Outlook:

Pitching continues to be the Blue Jays’ calling card early this season. Kevin Gausman’s dominant outing (10 strikeouts in 8 innings) on Wednesday marked the eighth time this season that Toronto has held an opponent to two runs or fewer. Their rotation has been locked in, and Thursday’s starter Chris Bassitt (1-0, 0.71 ERA) has been just as sharp. Bassitt has allowed just one earned run over his first two starts (12.2 IP) while racking up 16 strikeouts.

Offensively, the top of the Blue Jays lineup has carried the load. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., fresh off signing a $500 million mega-extension, recorded his fourth multi-hit effort in six games. The Jays don’t need a ton of runs when their arms are firing, but with Guerrero, Bo Bichette, and George Springer heating up, the bats are slowly catching up to the pitching.

Boston Red Sox Outlook:

The Red Sox, once riding a five-game win streak, have cooled off at the plate, managing just four total runs in the first three games of this series. While Rafael Devers has snapped out of his early-season funk with 13 hits in his last 30 at-bats, Boston’s lineup has struck out 14 times in back-to-back games, a clear red flag.

Thursday’s starter Walker Buehler (1-1, 8.68 ERA) has yet to look like the front-line arm Boston hoped for when they added the former Dodger ace. He’s been tagged for 10 runs in just over 9 innings across two starts. While his lone career outing vs. Toronto was stellar (7 shutout innings in 2019), he’ll need to rediscover that form quickly or risk falling deeper into early-season struggles.

Betting Prediction:

The value lies with the Blue Jays in this spot. They’ve been the better team all series, and with Bassitt dealing and Boston’s offense struggling, Toronto has the edge both on the mound and with momentum. The Red Sox lineup is whiffing too often to trust at the moment, and Buehler hasn’t inspired confidence.

Pick: Blue Jays Moneyline (+102)
Total Prediction: Lean Under 8.5 (+100)
Score Projection: Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 2

Toronto’s bullpen and top-end starting pitching continue to carry the load, while Boston’s offensive slump shows no sign of immediate improvement. Look for the Jays to finish the sweep at Fenway.
