The Lynx are off to a red-hot 6-0 start and look every bit like contenders again as they begin their defense of the 2024 Commissioner’s Cup title. They pulled off a narrow 74-71 road win over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday without Napheesa Collier, no less. The reigning Western Conference Player of the Week was held out with a lingering knee issue, but the team insists it’s a precaution.
Even without their star, Minnesota flexed its depth. Kayla McBride dropped 20 points in only her second game back, and Natisha Hiedeman sank a dagger 3-pointer with just 5.5 seconds remaining. With or without Collier, this Lynx squad is balanced, battle-tested, and clearly hungry for another Cup crown.

Golden State Valkyries (2-3, Hungry and Home Again)
After getting bruised in back-to-back battles with the Liberty, the expansion Valkyries return home looking to bounce back and they’ve got their sights set on one of the league’s top squads. Despite the two-game skid, Golden State nearly pulled off a shocker in Thursday’s 82-77 loss to New York, showing serious fight against the WNBA’s best.
Monique Billings and company have something to build on, and now they’ll finally play at Chase Center again where they’re 1-0 so far. Reinforcements have arrived, too. Starting point guard Tiffany Hayes and sharpshooter Cecilia Zandalasini are back in the rotation, giving the Vals much-needed depth.
Player Prop 2: Veronica Burton – Over 4.5 Assists – With Hayes easing back in, Burton should continue to facilitate the offense and create opportunities for scorers like Thornton and Zandalasini.
