New York Mets: Subway Momentum Building
Apparently baseball makes absolutely no sense again because the Mets at (+133) underdog suddenly remembered how to play competent baseball exactly when everybody buried them emotionally two weeks ago.
New York Mets entered this week looking like a baseball disaster movie. Half the Opening Day lineup is injured, the offense spent April impersonating a local beer league, and somehow now they suddenly enter the Subway Series carrying momentum while Yankees fans nervously refresh injury reports every 12 minutes.
Baseball is beautiful nonsense.
The Mets just completed their first sweep of the season after smashing Detroit 9-4 Thursday, with five different players homering because apparently everybody in Queens became Babe Ruth overnight.
Rookie A.J. Ewing continues playing like somebody who accidentally selected “Hall of Fame Difficulty” and still dominates anyway. Meanwhile, Carson Benge has quietly become a sparkplug near the top of the lineup with seven hits during the Detroit series.
And then there’s Juan Soto, who scared every Mets fan alive after fouling a ball off his foot Wednesday before casually returning Thursday and launching another homer because panic attacks apparently build character.
On the mound, Clay Holmes gets the hilarious opportunity to face his former Yankees teammates after years spent closing games in the Bronx. Holmes owns a sparkling 1.86 ERA and would probably enjoy ruining Yankees Twitter for an entire weekend.
New York Yankees: Bronx Panic Growing
Meanwhile, the Yankees arrive looking suspiciously like a team held together with expensive tape and mild frustration.
New York Yankees a -159 moeyline favorite still lead the American League in runs and ERA because baseball statistics occasionally enjoy trolling gamblers, but this team suddenly looks very mortal.
The Yankees have lost five of their last six games and just finished getting one-hit by Baltimore in a 7-0 loss. Nothing screams offensive dominance quite like getting completely erased for nine innings before traveling directly into the Subway Series.
Injuries also continue piling up faster than parking tickets in Manhattan.
Max Fried is dealing with elbow soreness, Giancarlo Stanton still cannot escape the injury report, and Jose Caballero broke his finger because apparently the baseball gods felt extra dramatic this week.
The Yankees do counter with rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler, who owns a ridiculous 1.35 ERA and looked dominant against Milwaukee in his last outing.
Unfortunately for Yankees fans, this is the Subway Series, where logic disappears faster than New York parking spaces.
LVSB Final Score Prediction
The Yankees absolutely look like the better team on paper.
Which naturally means the Mets are probably winning because baseball enjoys chaos and emotional damage.
The Mets suddenly have energy, confidence, and momentum, while the Yankees limp into Queens carrying injuries and offensive inconsistency. Holmes also feels perfectly positioned for a revenge-style performance against his former club.
Expect loud crowds, overreactions after every inning, and at least 47 camera shots of confused celebrities.
Final Score: Mets 5, Yankees 4
