Las Vegas Aces Betting Preview

The defending champions suddenly enter Sunday’s matchup facing something they are not used to seeing very often: pressure in the standings. Las Vegas has dropped back-to-back games and now heads into San Francisco looking up at the expansion Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA standings.

That sentence alone would have sounded ridiculous a year ago.

The Aces fell 95-87 in Dallas on Thursday, and while the loss exposed some defensive problems, the bigger frustration centered around officiating and free throw disparity. Becky Hammon was visibly irritated after Las Vegas attempted only 12 foul shots while Dallas got to the line 22 times.

For bettors, that stat matters because Las Vegas currently ranks near the bottom of the WNBA in free throw attempts despite having one of the league’s most aggressive stars in A’ja Wilson. Hammon specifically called out the lack of whistles for Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chennedy Carter after Thursday’s loss.

Still, this remains one of the most talented rosters in basketball.

Wilson continues anchoring both ends of the floor while carrying the offensive workload during critical stretches. Her ability to dominate inside becomes especially important against a Golden State team that thrives defensively and slows opponents into uncomfortable half-court possessions.

The Aces also remember last season’s embarrassing 95-68 loss to the Valkyries during Commissioner’s Cup play. Las Vegas eventually responded by beating Golden State three straight times afterward, but that early upset still serves as motivation entering this matchup.

One major concern for bettors backing Las Vegas is perimeter defense. The Aces have allowed too many dribble drives lately, forcing help defenders into difficult rotations. Against a disciplined Golden State offense, that could create foul trouble and open kick-out opportunities throughout the game.

Still, Las Vegas typically responds well after losses under Hammon, especially when national attention starts questioning their championship status.

Player Prop Pick: A’ja Wilson Over 24.5 Points
Wilson should see heavy usage offensively after Thursday’s frustrating loss and remains the focal point of every half-court set.

Golden State Valkyries Betting Preview

The Valkyries are no longer just a fun expansion story.

Golden State enters Sunday with a 5-2 record, the league’s best defense, and one of the strongest home-court environments in the WNBA. Thursday’s 90-88 victory over Indiana showed once again how difficult this team has become to beat at Chase Center.

The Valkyries continue winning with defense, physicality, and relentless effort.

Golden State currently owns one of the league’s best point differentials, trailing only Minnesota, and much of that success starts with defensive pressure at the perimeter. Opposing guards are constantly forced into difficult possessions, and the Valkyries rarely allow clean transition opportunities.

Veronica Burton continues playing a massive role in that identity.

Burton attacked aggressively against Indiana, earning 12 free throw attempts while constantly pressuring defenders downhill. Combined with Gabby Williams, the Valkyries created major problems for the Fever simply by forcing physical half-court possessions and attacking the paint.

The crowd also continues becoming a real factor.

Natalie Nakase has embraced the growing atmosphere in San Francisco, and opposing teams are clearly feeling the intensity inside Chase Center. Golden State feeds off defensive momentum at home, and that energy often translates directly into scoring runs fueled by turnovers and transition baskets.

The concern Sunday is obvious though.

Las Vegas remains significantly more experienced in playoff-level basketball, and championship teams usually respond aggressively after consecutive losses. Golden State’s defense must avoid early foul trouble because Wilson becomes almost impossible to contain once she establishes position consistently inside.

Still, Bovada oddsmakers continue undervaluing how disruptive this Valkyries defense has become.

Player Prop Pick: Veronica Burton Over 5.5 Assists
Burton’s pace control and penetration should create plenty of scoring opportunities against Las Vegas’ shaky perimeter defense.

WNBA Final Score & Expert Prediction

This should feel like a playoff atmosphere despite being early in the season. Golden State’s defense and home crowd keep the game close throughout, but Las Vegas finally responds behind a monster performance from A’ja Wilson.

Final Score: Aces 84, Valkyries 79
Lean: Las Vegas -2.0

Under 168.5
