San Diego Padres: Finally Some Fireworks
Well, well, well… the Padres finally remembered that baseball games allow you to score more than three runs. Petco Park nearly needed a smoke detector after San Diego exploded for 10 runs and 13 hits. Fans probably checked their calendars to make sure it wasn’t a replay from May.
Jackson Merrill kept the faith and backed it up with two hits and two RBIs, Luis Campusano launched a homer, Miguel Andujar turned into a doubles machine with three, and Fernando Tatis Jr. added two hits, an RBI, and two stolen bases just for fun. Even better? They did it without Manny Machado, who is expected back after bruising his toe.
Griffin Canning (1-6, 6.71 ERA) gets the ball looking for his second win of the season. The ERA isn’t exactly billboard material, but the Padres’ offense finally appears to have found its pulse.
Arizona Diamondbacks: First Inning Only
Arizona deserves credit for one thing—they’ve mastered scoring in the first inning. Unfortunately, they’ve also mastered disappearing immediately afterward. It’s like ordering a five-course meal and only getting the appetizer.
Merrill Kelly (6-8, 5.71 ERA) has historically pitched well against San Diego, posting a 3.41 ERA in 18 career starts against the Padres. But this Diamondbacks lineup has cooled dramatically, sitting near the bottom of the league with just 83 home runs while going 14-20 over its last 34 games.
Eduardo Rodriguez summed it up perfectly: start winning, or the front office might start packing boxes at the trade deadline.
LVSB Betting Prediction
The Padres finally looked like an offense instead of a support group, and with Machado expected back, they have the edge again. Arizona’s bats have been taking longer naps than your uncle after Thanksgiving dinner.
