Philadelphia escaped Monday’s opener with a 2-1 win, but Tuesday brings the kind of pitching matchup that makes hitters suddenly remember they left the oven on at home. The Phillies are 78-60 and tied with Chicago for the NL’s top wild-card spot, while Arizona sits 73-66 and only a half-game behind San Diego for the final playoff position.
Lefty vs. Lefty
Arizona sends Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound at 14-4 with a sparkling 2.50 ERA. He has won four straight decisions and seven of his last eight, including seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts against the Cubs. Rodriguez is also 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA in five career starts against Philadelphia, striking out 40 over 29 innings.
