The Giants welcome their newest acquisition, Rafael Devers, with a juicy subplot, facing the Red Sox just days after Boston shipped him out west. Devers is still settling in at DH, but manager Bob Melvin hinted at him possibly debuting at first base during this homestand to make room for Wilmer Flores at DH. Flores, by the way, delivered a clutch pinch-hit double Thursday to seal a 2-1 win over the Guardians.
Right-hander Hayden Birdsong (3-1, 2.79 ERA) gets the start and has been quietly excellent. He’s yet to allow more than three runs in a game since joining the rotation and should benefit from a Red Sox lineup that just lost its top power bat.

Boston enters this series trying to steady themselves after trading away Devers. While they did take two of three from the Mariners, it’s hard to ignore the leadership and power void left behind. Still, young guns like Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer stepped up with homers in Seattle.
On the mound, Hunter Dobbins (4-1, 3.74 ERA) is hot, fresh off two wins against the Yankees where he allowed just three runs over 11 innings. He’s been getting run support, but can the new-look lineup back him again?
