Chicago White Sox vs. Chicago Cubs – Game Preview and Prediction

Moneyline: Chi. Cubs -280
Total: 10.0

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are looking to keep their bats blazing as they face off against the Chicago White Sox in the middle game of this interleague showdown. The Cubs have been red-hot lately, winning three of their last four and dominating the White Sox in eight of their last nine meetings dating back to July 2023. Friday’s opener was nothing short of a demolition, as the Cubs smashed their way to a 13-3 victory, bringing their season total to 257 runs in just 45 games—an impressive average of 5.7 runs per game, second only to the Dodgers.

Leading the charge for Chicago has been Pete Crow-Armstrong, who exploded for a 4-for-5 performance on Friday, including a home run and six RBIs. The young center fielder is batting .282 with 12 homers and 49 hits, establishing himself as a key piece in the Cubs’ offensive arsenal. Cubs manager Craig Counsell had high praise for the rising star, noting his unexpected power surge and strong defensive presence.

The Cubs will send veteran Matthew Boyd (3-2, 2.78 ERA) to the mound. The 34-year-old southpaw has been consistent, aiming for his fourth six-inning outing in his last five starts. Despite a no-decision in his last appearance against the Mets, Boyd has been solid, allowing just two runs over six innings. Historically, Boyd has struggled against the White Sox, posting a 4-9 record with a 4.98 ERA in 19 starts. He’ll look to turn that around against a floundering White Sox lineup.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox are reeling after dropping their sixth straight game to the Cubs and their 31st of the season, the second-most in the majors. Friday’s loss was particularly rough, with the South Siders surrendering 13 runs and committing two costly errors that led to five unearned runs. First-year manager Will Venable, a former Cubs coach, attributed some of the miscues to the windy conditions at Wrigley, but it’s clear the team has bigger problems.

The White Sox will hand the ball to Sean Burke (2-4, 4.15 ERA) for Saturday’s clash. Burke showed promise in his last outing against Miami, allowing just one run over four innings in a no-decision. However, the 25-year-old will be facing the Cubs for the first time in his young career, and he’ll need to be sharp to contain a potent Cubs lineup that has been raking at the plate.

Prediction:

The Cubs are simply rolling right now, and with Boyd on the mound and their offense firing on all cylinders, I expect them to take care of business once again. Look for the North Siders to grab the win 6-3 and continue their dominance over the White Sox. With their bats surging and confidence high, Chicago should cruise to another victory at Wrigley Field.

Score Prediction: Cubs 6, White Sox 3
Best Bet: Chi. Cubs RL -1.5 (-135)

Under 10.0 (-105)
