Dallas Wings: Winning Streak Growing
The Wings arrive in Los Angeles riding a three-game winning streak and looking like a team that suddenly remembered defense is legal in the WNBA.
Dallas absolutely suffocated Seattle in its last outing, holding the Storm to just 56 points. At one point, Seattle was turning the ball over almost as often as it was making baskets. That’s the basketball equivalent of trying to text while wearing oven mitts.
Paige Bueckers scored only 10 points, which for her qualifies as a quiet evening, but she still filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds and seven assists. Meanwhile, Aziaha James stepped off the bench and dropped 18 points, proving the Wings have scoring options everywhere.
Dallas now has eight players averaging at least 6.6 points per game. That’s called balance. Or, as opposing coaches call it, “a giant headache.”
The Wings rank among the league’s better defensive teams, allowing just 81.6 points per game while also limiting three-point shooting. Basically, they show up and ruin everybody’s favorite offensive plays.
Los Angeles Sparks: Awaiting Star Return
The Sparks have been patiently waiting for Kelsey Plum to return after an ankle injury temporarily shut down one of the hottest scorers in basketball.
Before getting hurt, Plum was averaging a ridiculous 26.8 points per game. During her absence, the Sparks discovered that scoring points is significantly harder without someone averaging nearly 27 of them.
Dearica Hamby and Nneka Ogwumike have done their best to keep things together, each averaging 15.3 points per contest. Rae Burrell also exploded for a career-high 22 points against Las Vegas, although unfortunately the rest of the offense seemed to RSVP “maybe” to that game.
The good news? Plum is expected back. According to her, she’s been rehabbing nonstop, sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber, and basically preparing for this game like she’s training for a superhero movie.
If Plum returns anywhere near full strength, the Sparks become a much more dangerous offensive team immediately.

Dallas has the better recent form and the stronger defense. Los Angeles gets a major boost if Plum is healthy enough to make a meaningful impact.
Expect a competitive Commissioner’s Cup battle with momentum swinging back and forth all night. In the end, Dallas’ defensive consistency gives them a slight edge.
