Bench Sparks Fly
Chicago exploded for an 11-2 victory on Tuesday, and once again Michael Conforto delivered when it mattered most. The veteran launched his MLB-leading fourth pinch-hit homer of the season, proving he might be baseball’s most dangerous part-time employee. Colin Rea (7-6, 4.74 ERA) gets the ball, but his career numbers against Detroit aren’t exactly confidence boosters, posting an 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in three appearances.
Underdog Ready Roar
Detroit has already shown it can win this series, and now Keider Montero (6-5, 3.22 ERA) returns to the rotation after thriving in a versatile relief role. He recently tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings against the Angels and looks ready for a bigger workload. With Jack Flaherty (3-8, 4.59 ERA) on the injured list, Montero has an opportunity to shine. While everyone rushes to back yesterday’s winner, we’ll gladly take the plus-money value.
