The NL Central race is technically still alive, but the clock is starting to sound like a smoke alarm in Chicago. The Cubs are 78-61 and eight games behind Milwaukee with only 23 left, while the Brewers sit 86-53 with baseball’s best record.
Milwaukee already answered Monday’s 17-3 embarrassment by punching back 9-4 Tuesday. Christian Yelich and Joey Ortiz both went deep, while Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras and Ortiz collected two hits apiece.
Jacob Misiorowski Means Trouble
Milwaukee sends Jacob Misiorowski to the mound at 14-5 with a ridiculous 1.73 ERA. He has won three straight starts and allowed only two runs over six innings against the Mets last time out.
He is also 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in four career starts against Chicago. Pete Crow-Armstrong has apparently seen enough, going 0-for-9 with seven strikeouts against him. That matchup needs adult supervision.
Cubs Counter With Peterson
Chicago starts David Peterson, who sits 7-7 with a 5.11 ERA. He allowed two runs over five innings against Cincinnati in his last outing and owns a solid 4-1 record with a 3.44 ERA in seven career appearances against Milwaukee.
William Contreras is just 2-for-11 against Peterson, so Chicago does have at least one stat it can hang on the refrigerator.
LVSB Betting Prediction
Milwaukee has the better record, hotter lineup and a massive pitching advantage with Misiorowski. Laying -159 is not cheap, but betting against a 1.73 ERA while Chicago is chasing from eight games back sounds unnecessarily adventurous.
