New York Yankees: Bronx Panic Meter
The Yankees are stumbling into Baltimore after getting bullied by Milwaukee pitchers all weekend. Six runs in 28 innings is the kind of offensive production that makes sports bettors stare blankly at walls questioning their life choices.
Still, this is the Yankees we’re talking about. A three-game losing streak in New York basically counts as a citywide emergency. Sirens. News alerts. People dramatically yelling into microphones on sports radio.
Manager Aaron Boone is already talking about “righting the ship,” which sounds very inspirational until you remember the Yankees absolutely demolished Baltimore earlier this month. New York swept four games and outscored the Orioles 39-10. That was less baseball series and more public humiliation.
The good news for Yankees fans is Ryan Weathers gets the ball again after shutting Baltimore down earlier this month. He held the Orioles to one run and three hits over five innings in that matchup and has quietly been one of the Yankees’ most reliable starters lately with a 3.03 ERA.
Also, rookie Spencer Jones finally recorded his first career hit Sunday, which means Yankees Twitter can calm down for approximately six minutes.
Baltimore Orioles: Bird Trouble Continues
Baltimore finally won Sunday, which was important because losing 8 of 10 games tends to make everybody miserable. The Orioles escaped with a 2-1 win over the Athletics, though asking your offense to score more than two runs apparently remains optional.
Leody Taveras provided one of the few highlights lately with a huge throw at the plate, while Dylan Beavers delivered a clutch hit late. Small victories. Literally.
The Orioles’ biggest issue remains pitching and defense. Baltimore allowed at least three runs in 25 consecutive games before Sunday. Twenty-five. That’s not a slump. That’s a cry for help.
Now they hand the ball to Brandon Young, who owns a respectable 3-1 record with a 4.35 ERA but has never faced the Yankees before. That’s a bit like learning to drive by entering the Daytona 500.
Baltimore desperately needs cleaner baseball because giving free baserunners to the Yankees is basically baseball’s version of feeding raccoons. Once it starts, the chaos spreads everywhere.
LVSB Final Score Prediction
The Yankees may look shaky right now, but Baltimore has been the perfect cure for struggling offenses lately. New York already proved earlier this month they can absolutely terrorize this pitching staff.
Baltimore should compete better at home, but trusting the Orioles’ pitching against a frustrated Yankees lineup feels dangerous.
Also, betting against the Yankees after an ugly weekend losing streak usually ages poorly.
