Jets vs. Stars – Game 4 Preview and Prediction
Moneyline: Dallas -147 | Total: 5.5
Winnipeg Jets Analysis
The Winnipeg Jets find themselves in a familiar but undesirable position as they head into Game 4 against the Dallas Stars. Down 2-1 in the series, Winnipeg desperately needs a win on the road—a feat they have failed to accomplish in their last eight playoff matchups stretching back to April 2023. So far this postseason, the Jets are winless away from home, which is becoming a glaring issue as they try to claw back into this series.
Head coach Scott Arniel emphasized the need for consistency, especially on the road:
“We have to be more consistent. At the end of the day, this group has all year long been able to respond,” Arniel noted after Monday’s optional skate.
In Game 3, the Jets had their opportunities. The score was knotted at 2-2 before a disastrous 60-second stretch saw the Stars light the lamp twice, including a controversial goal from Alexander Petrovic. That flurry ultimately led to a 5-2 defeat, pushing the Jets to the brink.
Defenseman Josh Morrissey acknowledged the challenge but remains optimistic:
“Unfortunately, we’ve had some tough breaks on the road… but we’re very much in a series right now… and (Tuesday’s) game is massive.”
A win would not only tie the series but also flip the pressure back to Dallas with Winnipeg holding home-ice for two of the final three games.
Dallas Stars Analysis
The Dallas Stars are sitting pretty with a 2-1 series lead and are just two wins away from their third consecutive conference finals appearance. After getting shut out 4-0 in Game 2, Dallas bounced back with authority, seizing Game 3 by a score of 5-2. Head coach Pete DeBoer stressed the importance of keeping the pressure on Winnipeg:
“In a series, you want to keep putting the other team under that must-win pressure,” DeBoer explained.
One of the main reasons for Dallas’s dominance? Mikko Rantanen. The newly acquired forward has been electric, notching three points in Game 3, marking his fifth game with three or more points in his last six appearances. Rantanen currently leads all playoff scorers with 18 points and has contributed to 15 of the Stars’ last 17 goals.
Rantanen downplayed his heroics, simply saying, “I’m trying to stay in the moment.” But his impact is undeniable, and even coach DeBoer admits the star forward has changed the complexion of Dallas’s offense.
“When you have a star player like that, it definitely changes a little bit of the identity of your team,” DeBoer added.
Prediction:
Winnipeg’s struggles on the road are just too glaring to ignore. Dallas has all the momentum, especially with Rantanen playing out of his mind and the Jets fumbling opportunities in enemy territory. Look for the Stars to maintain their home-ice advantage and edge out the Jets with a 4-2 win in Game 4.
