Game Preview

After rallying to a dramatic 10-inning victory, the New York Yankees aim to clinch the series against the Boston Red Sox in Sunday night’s finale at Fenway Park.

The Yankees mounted a late comeback with 16 hits, overcoming the Red Sox in an 11-8 slugfest on Saturday. Aaron Judge led the charge, going 4-for-4, including a home run and three RBIs. The game featured five ties in a classic showdown.

"This atmosphere at Fenway, these are the moments and games you live for," said Judge.

The Yankees might introduce newly acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from Miami into the storied rivalry, though his Sunday appearance was uncertain. "Jazz brings a mix of speed, power, and versatility," commented manager Aaron Boone.

Carlos Rodon (10-7, 4.42 ERA) is set to start for New York. After a six-game winless stretch, Rodon found form against Tampa Bay, tossing seven innings of two-hit, one-run ball with 10 strikeouts. "We leaned more on the fastball and moved it around effectively," Rodon remarked on his recent success.

Rodon, who has a mixed history against Boston with a 2-4 record and 4.05 ERA in seven starts, faced the Red Sox earlier this season, yielding five runs over five innings in a June defeat.

Boston, struggling with a 2-6 record post-All-Star break and an average of 8.4 runs allowed per game, seeks to turn around their fortunes. "Every game feels as pivotal as Opening Day right now," Red Sox manager Alex Cora observed.

The Red Sox bullpen faltered late in Saturday’s game, with Kenley Jansen and others unable to secure the win despite being a strike away from victory. Tyler O’Neill shined for Boston, hitting two go-ahead homers in his third multi-homer game in six outings.

Tanner Houck (8-6, 2.71 ERA) will take the mound for Boston, hoping to improve upon his earlier season performance against the Yankees, where he allowed three runs in just over three innings but did not take the loss in a Red Sox victory.
