Atlanta vs San Diego MLB Preview & Pick
Moneyline: San Diego -110
Runline: San Diego -1.5 (+195)
Total: 7.5
The Padres finally return home after a road trip that felt like a reality TV survival challenge. Unfortunately, their reward is welcoming two of the National League’s biggest bullies to town. First up: the Atlanta Braves. Next up: the Dodgers. Somebody in San Diego clearly upset the baseball schedule makers.
San Diego enters as a slight -110 favorite with the total set at 7.5.
Atlanta Braves: Still Dangerous Even While Complaining
Atlanta arrives after dropping a game to Milwaukee and losing seven of its last 10 contests. That’s the baseball version of a billionaire complaining about a rough month.
Despite their recent hiccups, the Braves still sit comfortably atop the NL East and remain one of baseball’s most complete teams. They own a stellar 3.40 team ERA while ranking among the league leaders in runs, home runs and slugging.
Matt Olson is once again launching baseballs into neighboring zip codes and is tracking toward 40 homers and 100-plus RBIs. Michael Harris II has bounced back in a big way with a .306 average, while Ozzie Albies has rediscovered his power stroke with 12 home runs.
Grant Holmes gets the start carrying a 4-3 record and 4.33 ERA. His last outing was cut short by rain, which may have been the most effective reliever Atlanta used all week.
San Diego Padres: Signs of Life?
The Padres offense has spent much of the season searching for itself like someone looking for car keys they left in their own hand. Somehow, despite ranking near the bottom of baseball in several offensive categories, San Diego finally showed signs of waking up on its recent trip.
Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado have all started producing again, while Samad Taylor has become an unexpected spark plug. Taylor enters the series riding an 11-game hitting streak and batting .362.
Michael King takes the mound trying to end a four-start losing streak. His 4-6 record doesn’t tell the whole story, as his 3.60 ERA remains respectable. The problem has been a lack of run support and a few unfortunate outings at the wrong time.
The Padres know this series is a measuring-stick moment. Beat Atlanta and people start talking playoffs. Get swept and people start talking golf tee times.
LVSB Final Score Prediction
Atlanta has the better overall roster, but San Diego’s bats are finally waking up at home. Expect a tight, playoff-style game with both starters under pressure.
The baseball gods owe San Diego a break. At least for one night.
