Atlanta Is Trying to Complete the Crime Scene
The Braves have already taken the first two games of this series, winning 4-3 Tuesday before stealing Wednesday’s game 6-5 on Ha-Seong Kim’s walk-off RBI single. Kim entered the moment hitting 5-for-76 (.066), because baseball occasionally chooses the funniest possible hero.
Atlanta now sits just two games behind Los Angeles for the NL’s second-best record, and Chris Sale gets the ball with a sweep on the table. Sale is 12-9 with a 2.20 ERA and has still pitched well during a three-start losing streak, posting a 3.00 ERA with 23 strikeouts. Apparently his offense has been observing a strict “figure it out yourself” policy.
Yamamoto Arrives to Stop the Bleeding
Los Angeles entered Atlanta riding a six-game winning streak and now suddenly needs to avoid its first Braves sweep since 2013. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a pretty decent emergency option.
Yamamoto is 12-7 with a 2.61 ERA and recently held Pittsburgh to two runs over 6⅓ innings while striking out nine. He has also completely frustrated Atlanta in his career, going 1-0 with 10 scoreless innings across two appearances.
Sale’s history against the Dodgers is less pretty. He is 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA in six regular-season appearances against Los Angeles and allowed three runs over seven innings in a 3-1 loss back in May.

This pitching matchup screams playoff baseball: two elite arms, one low total, and apparently every run requiring congressional approval.
Atlanta has the momentum, home field and the better recent clutch hitting. Los Angeles absolutely has the starter capable of ruining the sweep, but the Braves have found ways to win both close games already.
