Boston Is Suddenly Everybody’s Problem
A month ago, the Red Sox looked like they were shopping for golf clubs instead of playoff tickets. Fast forward to today and Boston has ripped off a ridiculous 23-3 run, capped by a sweep of the Dodgers that probably ruined Hollywood’s week.
Apparently winning wasn’t enough, so Boston also raided the trade market.
New Toys For Fenway
The headline move was landing three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, though he’ll need a little rehab before joining the party. The Red Sox also picked up Eli White and Erik Miller, making it clear the front office isn’t satisfied with simply being hot—they want to stay scorching.
Ceddanne Rafaela has been one of the biggest reasons for Boston’s surge, while Craig Breslow rewarded the clubhouse by loading up for October.
Don’t Sleep On Chicago
The White Sox aren’t arriving just to admire the Green Monster. They’ve won four of their last five games against the Yankees and Rays and recently strengthened the roster by adding Luis Castillo, Huascar Brazoban, Brenton Doyle and Joey Bart.
Andrew Benintendi has started heating up with 12 home runs after going deep twice over the weekend, proving revenge tours never really end.
Pitching Matchup
Chicago hands the ball to Davis Martin (9-5, 3.62 ERA), who has pitched better than his recent results suggest despite allowing four runs in each of his last two outings. He owns a 3.94 ERA in three career starts against Boston.
The Red Sox counter with Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 3.32 ERA), who has looked solid since returning from Tommy John surgery. His career numbers against Chicago aren’t pretty (0-3, 6.41 ERA), but this Boston club is playing a completely different brand of baseball than earlier this season.
LVSB Final Take
Chicago has improved, but running into Boston right now is like showing up to a barbecue wearing a steak costume. The Red Sox are crushing everyone in sight, Fenway is buzzing, and this lineup keeps finding ways to score. We’ll gladly ride the hot hand.
