Dallas Cowboys 2022-23 NFL Preview, Season Odds, Props Picks & Predictions

Dallas Cowboys Looking for Back-to-Back NFC East Title

After another failed attempt to win a playoff contest last season, the Dallas Cowboys will look to redeem themselves as they start another season as favorites (+140), according to Bookmakers at Bovada, to capture consecutive NFC East titles. The Cowboys haven’t had a postseason run and haven’t been in the conference championship since they won Super Bowl XXX way back in 1995. Indeed, since 1996, the Cowboys are a pathetic 3-10 in the playoffs. The mission of a deep playoff run is still feasible in 2022, but their offseason didn’t help. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who benefited from a solid offensive line, lost two starters and the team haven’t compensated for the losses.

Guard Connor Williams and tackle La’el Collins left in free agency and the club also lost pass rusher Randy Gregory and WR Amari Cooper. Those were big departures which ate away at Dallas’ depth. Apart from a one-year $3 million prove-it deal to DE Dante Fowler Jr. and young players who could improve, it’s hard to believe that the Cowboys’ roster is better than a year ago. Along with Cooper, Prescott will also be without WR Cedrick Wilson which leaves him with only two reliable targets in CeeDee Lamb and TE Dalton Schultz. The good news is in the backfield with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard both returning after combining for 1,719 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021

Defensively, coordinator Dan Quinn earned NFL Assistant Coach of the year honors for turning around the unit; a year after the Cowboys allowed the most points in franchise history. However, the Cowboys’ defense benefitted from playing a really poor cast of opposing quarterbacks last season, especially in their own division and that could change drastically this year. One big area that the unit is suitable for a regression is the takeaway portion. No defense had more takeaways than Dallas last season and it is hard fathom or expect a resurgence in that department.

The Cowboys have a couple of tough matchups to start their season with games against Tampa Bay in their opener and then, the Bengals the following week. While playing the Giants and the Commanders twice could be considered sure-wins, they have dates at LA Rams, at Green Bay, Tennessee and host a tough Indianapolis team.

Dallas Cowboys Offseason Moves:
Notable Additions: WR James Washington, DE Dante Fowler, OLB Anthony Barr
Notable Departures: WR Amari Cooper, WR Cedrick Wilson, OT La’el Collins, G Connor Williams, DE Randy Gregory LB Keanu Neal
1st and 2nd Draft Picks: OT Tyler Smith (24), DE Sam Williams (56)

2022-23 Dallas Cowboys NFL Futures Odds

The Bottom Line:
On paper, the Cowboys clearly aren’t as good as they were last season as their offensive line, receiving corps and pass rush have been affected by some severe defections. Yes, they do play in the worst division in the league and should vie for the division title but that will be the only way they enter the playoffs.
Last year’s record: 12-5
My Prediction: 9-8
