Toronto Tempo: Underdogs Refusing Collapse
Nothing says “totally normal Wednesday night” like a former championship coach returning to New York with an expansion franchise and immediately trying to ruin everybody’s emotional stability.
Sandy Brondello returns to face the Liberty after leading them to a title in 2024, then getting tossed aside in 2025 like expired yogurt. Now she arrives with the Tempo, who somehow already look far more competitive than most expansion teams usually do after nine games.
Toronto enters on a two-game winning streak after absolutely flattening Seattle 93-72. Rookie Kiki Rice continues looking like she downloaded a veteran point guard update overnight, averaging 13.1 points and 2.7 assists while playing way beyond rookie expectations. Julie Allemand returned from injury Saturday, meaning Toronto suddenly has two playmakers instead of one person dribbling while everyone else panics.
Meanwhile Brittney Sykes continues carrying flamethrowers offensively at 19.9 points per game, while Marina Mabrey adds another 18.7 nightly and several emotional reactions per quarter.
This team competes hard, scores enough, and most importantly for gamblers, refuses to completely die when trailing. That matters against large spreads.
New York Liberty: Brooklyn Pressure Mounting
The Liberty are favored by 10.5 points, which feels slightly aggressive considering they’ve been oddly mortal at home with a 2-3 record in Brooklyn this season. Apparently championship banners do not automatically defend the pick-and-roll.
Breanna Stewart still leads the team with 18.8 points per game because of course she does. Jonquel Jones continues controlling the paint with 12.7 points nightly while collecting rebounds like somebody promised her free rent.
The funniest storyline might be Pauline Astier becoming an accidental superstar. The undrafted rookie from France is casually shooting 61.2 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from deep while Liberty fans pretend they totally expected this the whole time.
With Sabrina Ionescu barely available this season because her foot and back have apparently entered witness protection, Astier has become one of the league’s biggest surprises.
New York still owns more talent, more experience, and more firepower overall. But covering huge numbers has not exactly become a reliable side hustle for them lately.
LVSB Final Score Prediction
The Liberty probably win because Toronto still lacks enough defensive consistency to survive four quarters against Stewart and Jones. But double-digit spreads in the WNBA can become dangerous quickly, especially against a Tempo squad suddenly playing with confidence.
Toronto feels scrappy enough to hang around while New York wins comfortably without fully crushing the number.
