Is Sports Betting Legal in Arkansas?
Gambling in Arkansas is highly limited, with the only permitted activities being parimutuel betting on horse and dog racing, bingo, raffles and the lottery. Additionally, there are two racinos that offer a few casino-style games alongside racing tracks in Hot Springs and West Memphis.
In Arkansas, illegal gambling is defined as betting any money or any valuable thing on a game of hazard or skill according to State Statute 5-66-101. Those convicted are required to pay fines of between $10 and $25.
The Local Option Horse Racing and Greyhound Racing Electronic Games of Skill Act of 2005 made it legal for gaming machines to be installed at racetracks in Hot Springs (Oaklawn) and West Memphis (Southland).
Furthermore, the Charitable Bingo and Raffles Enabling Act of 2007 legalized bingo and raffles with proper licensing.
Online Sportsbooks
Even though Arkansas does not have any sportsbooks that are available at physical locations or online, bettors have the option to choose from many offshore options. Offshore sportsbooks are generally safer than local bookmakers and offer a variety of options, allowing bettors to make bets from their personal computer or mobile device. Moreover, reputable and well-reviewed offshore books can be trusted to always provide lines and pay out, something that cannot always be said of local bookies.
Online Poker
As for online poker, because poker rooms are banned in the state of Arkansas, online games may appeal to interested players who can pursue offshore poker websites in order to participate. That said, please bet responsibly!
