Philadelphia vs Minnesota MLB Preview & Pick

Moneyline: Minnesota -111
Runline: Minnesota -1.5 (+185)
Total: 8.5

Philadelphia: If You Build It, Bet It

The Phillies arrive in Iowa having lost four of six, which isn’t exactly the Hollywood entrance Field of Dreams ordered. Fortunately, they get Aaron Nola and his 3-9 record with a 5.47 ERA. Wait…fortunately?

Nola hasn’t won in 13 starts, going 0-5 during that stretch, although he’s coming off a respectable outing against Toronto, allowing two runs on six hits over five innings. Against Minnesota, he’s 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in three career starts.

Philadelphia needs a spark, and Derek Hill gets something close to a homecoming. The Des Moines native will be playing less than three hours from home.

We’re backing Philadelphia to ruin Minnesota’s cornfield party.

Minnesota: Corn, Runs and Maybe Buxton

The Twins have won four of seven and just knocked off Baltimore 7-5 behind 14 hits.

Royce Lewis remains scorching, reaching base in 23 of his last 24 games. Josh Bell and Alan Roden each collected three hits Wednesday, while Byron Buxton could potentially return after being sidelined since July 28 with a right hip impingement.

Taj Bradley starts with a 9-4 record and 3.76 ERA. He’s winless across his last five outings despite pitching reasonably well, including three runs over five innings against Milwaukee.

Bradley’s only previous meeting with Philadelphia produced four runs, three earned, across six innings.

LVSB Betting Prediction

Minnesota is the slight -111 favorite, with the Phillies available as the small underdog. We’ll happily take Philadelphia in what basically amounts to a coin-flip market.

The bigger attraction is Over 8.5. Minnesota just produced 14 hits, Philadelphia gets another look at Bradley, and Nola’s 5.47 ERA isn’t exactly screaming pitchers’ duel.

If baseball is disappearing into an Iowa cornfield tonight, hopefully several of those balls have already cleared the fence.

Score Prediction

Eleven runs, a Phillies upset and somebody inevitably asking, “Is this heaven?”

No. It’s Iowa. And hopefully it’s an Over.

Final Score: Phillies 6, Twins 5
Lean: Philadelphia Phillies ML (-109)
Total:
Over 8.5 (-115)
