Phoenix vs New York Preview & Prediction

Spread: New York -5.0
Moneyline: New York (-210)
Total: 172.0

Phoenix Mercury: Serbia Sniper Arrives

The Mercury head into New York riding a three-game losing streak, but honestly, they at least lose with style. Phoenix has transformed into the WNBA version of your uncle’s old sports car. Still dangerous, occasionally fast, but every possession feels like something might fall off.

Alyssa Thomas continues stuffing stat sheets like she’s trying to break basketball itself, averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 assists and 7.9 rebounds. Kahleah Copper has added 18.7 points per game and remains the team’s primary scorer, while DeWanna Bonner continues proving basketball seniors discounts apparently do not apply to her career.

The biggest surprise has been rookie Jovana Nogic. Undrafted out of Serbia, she’s suddenly shooting 51.3 percent from deep and 93.1 percent at the line. Somewhere, several WNBA scouts are pretending they totally knew this was coming.

The Mercury nearly stole a road win in Atlanta last game and coach Nate Tibbetts keeps insisting the team is “taking steps forward.” At this point, Phoenix fans would settle for taking fewer steps backward defensively.

The real awkward subplot here is Satou Sabally. Phoenix watched her leave for New York in free agency, and now they have to see her wearing Liberty colors while the Mercury sit at 2-5 wondering where all the joy went.

New York Liberty: Home Court Disaster

The Liberty are suddenly doing something nobody expected. Losing home games. Repeatedly. New York has now dropped three straight at home for the first time since 2022, which in New York sports terms basically qualifies as a full emergency.

Breanna Stewart remains calm publicly, which is impressive considering the Liberty just blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead against an expansion team. Stewart says she’s glad the slump is happening early instead of late. That is technically true, although Liberty fans currently reacting online may disagree aggressively.

The biggest issue for New York has been availability. Sabrina Ionescu continues managing her foot injury, Leonie Fiebich just returned from winning a title overseas, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton remains away for personal reasons, and Satou Sabally briefly appeared Monday before illness sent her back to the bench.

At one point, the Liberty lineup looked less like a superteam and more like a group project where nobody showed up.

Still, this team has too much talent to stay cold forever. Stewart remains one of the league’s most dominant players, and if Ionescu returns fully healthy, New York’s offense should immediately look far more organized.

The Liberty also know losing four straight home games would trigger absolute chaos across New York sports radio.

Nobody wants that smoke.

LVSB Final Score Prediction

Both teams arrive struggling, exhausted, and probably checking the injury report every ten minutes. But New York still owns the better roster and desperately needs a statement win before the panic officially begins.

Phoenix keeps it competitive early before the Liberty finally remember they are supposed to be title contenders.

Final Score: Liberty 91, Mercury 84
Lean: New York -5.0
