Dodgers: Shohei’s Mound "Mystery" & LA’s Batting Barrage

Let’s start with the obvious, Shohei Ohtani is pitching. No, you’re not dreaming. It’s not a video game. The man is finally making a start after being paid like he’s pitching and hitting on the moon. And while his 9.00 ERA and zero strikeouts are more “beer league softball” than “Cy Young,” this is LA. All sins are forgiven if you hit 25 bombs and bring in 50,000 fans on a Sunday afternoon.

The Dodgers are 29-14 at home and 18-4 when they don’t give up a homer. Basically, if you’re not launching taters, they’re burying you. Shohei’s mound return is the storyline, but don’t forget Will Smith, no, not the one from Men in Black, is hotter than California asphalt, with four homers in his last 10 games. Even their mascot could probably go 2-for-4 right now.

Nationals: Bring a Helmet and Hope for the Best

The Nationals enter Sunday like a kid walking into an exam they forgot to study for. At 32-45 overall and a dismal 2-8 over their last 10, morale is lower than their payroll.

Mike Soroka (3-5, 5.06 ERA) is tasked with slowing down a Dodger lineup that smells blood. So naturally, the Nationals turn to a guy with a 5.00 ERA in his past few starts to handle a potential MVP’s return to the mound. What could possibly go wrong?

Still, there’s James Wood. The man’s got 21 home runs, and if he gets ahold of one, maybe, just maybe, the Nats can make things mildly uncomfortable for like, five minutes.

If Washington hits eight or more times, they’re statistically in good shape. The problem? That requires eight at-bats where they don’t immediately ground into double plays.

Final Score Prediction:

The Dodgers are trying to win the series. The Nationals are just trying to win back their dignity. Shohei pitches, Smith rakes, and the scoreboard might run out of bulbs. Get your popcorn. And maybe a mercy rule waiver.

Final Score Prediction: Dodgers 8, Nationals 3
